NAGC is the UK's foremost membership charity that deals with all aspects of giftedness in children.
Individuals, parents and organisations are welcome as members.
We strive to support those who are directly involved with gifted children - parents, teachers, schools and medical professionals - as well as advising policy makers at national and local levels.
NAGC's mission is:
To advise on....................
To support.......................
To provide for..................
the needs of high ability children, young people and their families |
Our immediate objectives are:
- To provide help, support and encouragement to high ability children, their families ( especially parents ) and all others involved in their education and welfare.
- To increase national and international awareness of high ability and the understanding of the emotional, social and educational needs of gifted and talented young people.
- To enable children from all backgrounds, including children with learning difficulties, to convert their potential into achievement.
To help us achieve these objectives we offer:
- Advocacy and lobbying to all the key stakeholders in the gifted and talented arena so that the voice of parents is heard and understood.
- An Information & Advice Service for children and young people, parents and organisations working with these groups. This is currently available Monday - Friday 09.15 - 16.00. The number is 0845 450 0295 or 01908 646433 and ask for the Information & Advice Service.
- A website that has all the latest information about issues surrounding giftedness, significant links, helpful ideas, and access to discussion boards so that concerns and experiences can be shared with other members. http://www.nagcbritain.org.uk/
- A Parent-School Partnership (PSP) service which supports parents and schools to find a positive outcome for the child in their care. This is a referral service from the Information & Advice Line.
- Branches and regular Explorer Activity Clubs in 26 locations throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland to support parents and children. In addition to branches we have informal groups where parents meet on an ad hoc basis if that is what they would prefer.
- Regular magazines with branch news and key articles for both children and adults.
- Free resource packs for parents with information and advice on a full range of issues about giftedness.
- Research and other publications on gifted and talented issues. Recent publications include "Neglected Voices? - Engaging Parents, Gifted and Talented Children" and the Interim "Report on Engaging Parents in the Education of their Gifted Children? Quality Standards."
- Access to Art and Music specialists for help and support.
- Free Children and Youth membership for families with young and older children. This is an opportunity for these children to take advantage of the on-line community to engage with similarly gifted young people and to receive the quarterly publications, Muse, A-Muse and E-Muse.
- NAGC Family Days where members from all over the country can come together to share experiences. This is always an extensive parallel programme for parents and children and in recent years attendance has exceeded 600 delegates.
- Regional Activity Days are planned throughout the country where families who cannot make the Family Day can join in fun activities and meet other families with gifted children. Details are posted on this website as soon as they are known.
- Access to the Gifted and Talented Journal which is one of the leading academic journals on giftedness with an international span.
