To provide teachers of art with an opportunity to see good practice in a specific discipline being taught in other ISADA schools.
To give the host school an impartial and relatively informal inspection.
To give a department wishing to set up, or improve a discipline, the chance to see how other schools operate.
To give teachers from different schools an
opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas on a wider range of issues e.g. examinations, schemes of work, materials and techniques etc.
HOW WILL IT WORK?
Schools willing to participate in the scheme would list their
details on the ISADA web site together with their particular strengths.
The initiative would be made by the visiting teachers department.
The host school would provide lunch (and other meals if possible) but all other expenses
would be the responsibility of the visiting teacher. The host school would provide a list of possible accommodation but it would be the responsibility of the visiting teacher to organise.
PRACTICE
Visits would last no longer than 2 days.
Visiting teachers would "shadow" a member of the department whilst teaching art, have the opportunity to question the H>O>D> and other members of the department.
The visiting
teacher will provide the host school with a brief, but hopefully totally honest, report on what they have seen, in either a written or verbal form to be decided by the host school.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
It will be possible to see how other departments run on a day to day basis.
It should be possible to discuss problems and issues in a candid and informal way with others doing the same job.
Hopefully a teacher would come back full of ideas and information and have had their confidence boosted.
The host school would have a candid fly on the wall comment on how they operate perhaps with some ideas that they could use.
Links between schools would have been made.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Any fully paid up ISADA school who is prepared to "host" visiting teachers.
Schools would only be expected to "host" one visit per term from another school in the scheme.
WHAT WILL IT COST?
The cost of transport.
One night's accommodation.
Breakfast and an evening meal.
