General Information

Aims of Hawkesbury Fields School

The staff at Hawkesbury Fields School believe that they will assist children within the school to maximise their potential for learning and independence by working within the following aims. It is hoped that people involved with the school in whatever roles will share and respect these aims. By working as a team within the school where we are all developing and improving the learning environment for our pupils.
To accept the uniqueness of each child and therefore clearly state each child's individual needs. The children need access to a curriculum which ensures that whilst meeting these priorities staff provide a broad, balanced and fulfilling education for all children within the school. This can only be done by adopting a teaching and learning style that are sufficiently differentiated to cater for individual needs.
To provide a stimulating, challenging and supportive learning environment based upon high expectations of what each child can realistically achieve, both as an individual and as part of the wider community. This environment will help children feel secure and valued as individuals and will enable them to learn to co-operate with one another.
By maintaining detailed daily written records of individual pupil progress we can share information with parents and others involved in the education of a particular child which will help us to develop continuity and progression both within class, between classes, on transfer to other schools and between home and school. We believe that consistency and continuity is a key to maximising potential.
To promote the moral, social and cultural development of the pupils. Also to provide an environment where children can experience aspects of life which many may class as spiritual without imposing subjective spiritual values. By offering opportunities which enhance the children's enjoyment and wonder of their own lives we can go a long way towards promoting moral and social growth.
Hawesbury Fields School is a learning environment which values all its members which seeks to aid the development of all its children and staff, within the realisation that this must not effect the aim prioritised for the children it serves.
To provide frequent opportunities for parents to become involved in the education of their child and to enable parents to be confident with their child within and as a member of the wider community.
To foster an understanding and positive attitude towards our children from the wider community.
For our staff to constantly re-evaluate and to have commitment towards equal opportunities and multi cultural education. This will be done by carefully examining the effect of attitudes toward our pupils.
As legislation is brought out we will incorporate it into school, in a way which will not affect the basic philosophy and aims of the school.
Every year the staff and Governors of Hawkesbury Fields School will review the school's performance on realising its aims.

General Philosophy of the School

The overall purpose of Hawkesbury Fields School is to provide all our pupils with stimulating, challenging and supportive learning environment based upon high expectations of what each child can realistically achieve, both as an individual and as part of the wider community. In doing this we hope to develop in all our pupils a sense of responsibility towards the needs of others.
We value the achievements of all our pupils, acknowledging that what may be a small step for one pupil may be a huge step for another and aim to create teaching situations which encourage perseverance, motivation and confidence. By developing an environment in which pupils realise and understand that their efforts are valued and appreciated, we can instil a sense of personal worth.
Through our procedures of continual assessment and recording we can ensure that each child's educational priorities can be identified and addressed. The schools curriculum is based on developing skills which can be transferred to everyday real-life situations.
The school has a deep-seated commitment towards equal opportunities and implicit in this is the fostering of understanding and positive attitudes towards our children from the wider community. One of the ways in which we tackle these issues is by encouraging links with other local schools. It is important that our school is perceived as part of the wider educational provision in Coventry City and that it's identity as a place of teaching and learning is paramount.
