Tory, Labour or SNP - you choose.
- The Status Quo. No change from the present system. This is the policy of the ruling Conservative Party. Centralists to the end, they believe that Britain is "one nation", and have no intention of ceding any powers away from Westminster.
- Devolution. Proposed by the Labour Party and the Liberal/Democrats, this would involve setting up an Assembly in Edinburgh, elected under proportional representation, but with no powers over the economy, oil or whisky revenues, defence, foreign policy, nuclear issues and no direct representation at the European Council of Ministers. Power would not be entrenched, and this Assembly would be powerless to prevent a future hostile Westminster Government from abolishing it.
- Independence. Full sovereign independence with Scotland re-establishing herself as a nation within the European Union (exactly the same status as Denmark, Ireland etc..), having control over all policy, defence, social and foreign. This is the policy of the Scottish National Party.
The problem with devolution is that it was dreamed up in the 1960s as a means to deflect support from the Independence cause, and has been repeatedly used by Labour to buy off Scottish votes ever since. Since 1889 Home Rule bills have been presented to the House of Commons on 34 (thirty-four) occasions. NONE have succeeded, all having fallen victim to Westminster trickery and deceit. Why should a 35th time be successful ?
I want to join the Scottish National Party .
I would like to help campaign and raise funds for the Scottish National Party .
