Community Action

The School is keen to develop its community links. It is actively seeking to launch a “Senior Citizen’s Luncheon Club”, but we operate twilight sessions for adults, a continuing educational programme for vocational courses for adults in the evenings, and we are about to start a playgroup. There is a tradition at Fryerns Community School to have students perform so there are at least two concerts each year, a drama production, a gym/dance display and an “Arts” week. We are part of the consortium for the development of community arts and will be developing our staging facilities

We host many events in our Main Hall and the resources of the school are used as fully as possible. Links with industry are in place and the Careers Service is well represented, providing counselling and guidance to youngsters in Years 9, 10 and 11.

We are preparing students to be contributing members of a mature community. This requires them to be responsible and present a “good citizen” approach. The “School Council” in school is just one piece of evidence of the way in which we develop this understanding of democracy and decision-making. We have a crime watch group, several environmental groups, together with Charity fund-raising groups.
